Why Hardwood is a Great Flooring Choice
Hardwood flooring is very durable, and has a timeless look that lasts longer than any other type of flooring if properly maintained. That’s why you see homes that are decades old with the same hardwood flooring installed and looking great. This sort of lifespan is dependent on the type of wood and how it is taken care of but it can truly be an investment of a lifetime.
Not only does hardwood last a very long time but each plank is 100% unique due to it being a naturally grown material. Sometimes this can seem inconvenient due to varying plank lengths and occasional knots in the grain pattern, but nothing compares to the natural beauty that hardwood brings to a home. We have the best sources for hardwood to ensure you will be very satisfied with your flooring choice.
Types of Hardwood Flooring
Wood flooring comes in a variety of species and types and it’s important to know the differences between each. This will allow you to choose what suits your lifestyle and preferences. Whether you want something that looks bold or if you want something that will last a lifetime, we have the hardwood flooring you need.
Engineered Hardwood Floors
Engineered hardwood flooring is the most common type of wood flooring due to the availability and lower price. Engineered wood floors are made by stacking three to ten layers (called piles) that are glued together to make up the bulk of the height of the flooring. The top layer (called the veneer) is the premium wood that contains the grain and is what you see once the flooring is installed. The benefit is that the pile material is lower cost than the veneer without sacrificing quality and longevity of the floor. Not only do the layers allow the flooring to be cheaper, but engineered hardwood is stronger than solid wood flooring due to the construction.
Solid Wood Flooring
While solid hardwood is less durable than engineered wood floors and is more susceptible to expansion and contraction between seasons and temperature swings due to air conditioning, it does carry the benefit of being made 100% of hardwood milled from lumber. This also means you are able to refinish this wood many times over which can stretch the longevity of the hardwood far beyond engineered wood.
It is important to note that manufacturers have better finishes to the hardwood than anything available to contractors or consumers and hardwood refinishing should only be done when the finish has been completely worn down.
